Mission

The mission of Grosse Ile Township Schools, in cooperation with students, parents and community,
 is to teach the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for every student to lead a successful life.

Core Values

As we strive for excellence in Grosse Ile Township Schools, the planning and decision making process will be guided by the following core values.

Statements of Vision

 

The vision of the members of the Strategic Planning Committee for Grosse Ile Township Schools is outlined in the statements listed below.  These vision statements have been categorized as they relate to Student Learning, Resources, Community Involvement, School Structure, Organization/Instructional Design, and Leadership.  It is within these categories that Grosse Ile Township Schools will move forward over the next five years (2001-2006) in providing the children of the district with educational opportunities to meet the demands of both the known and unknown future.

 

Student Learning

v     We will have students learning the four basic disciplines – language arts, science, mathematics, and social studies – emphasizing reading, writing and communication skills.

v     We will have a coordinated technology curriculum K-12.

v     We will have use of multiple teaching techniques for different learning styles.

v     We will have physically fit students leading healthy life styles.

v     We will have our district achievement scores in the top five percent of the state and national achievement tests.

v     We will challenge all students to reach their highest potential.

v     We will have students who are responsible; who respect themselves, their classmates and authority; and who model good citizenship.

v     We will provide our students with practical life skills including time and money management.

v     We will have students actively engaged in the learning process.

v     We will have more varied academic choices for our students.

v     We will have families who are involved with the educational experience of their students.

 

Resources

v     We will have technological tools that will supplement present educational tools.

v     We will have commercial partnerships that will enhance revenue.

v     We will have opportunities for alumni funding in place.

v     We will recruit, retain and train a diverse staff (including substitutes).

v     We will have a cost effective transportation system.

v     We will have a common calendar for Downriver schools.

v     We will have funding to maintain high quality facilities, e.g. sinking fund.

v     We will supplement our teaching staff with experts from business or from specific areas of expertise.

 

Community Involvement

v     We will have a coordinated interactive community calendar utilizing the latest technology.

v     We will communicate and share the needs and resources of Grosse Ile Township Schools and the community.

v     We will have fund raising activities dedicated exclusively to the Grosse Ile Township Schools.

v     We will build and sustain relationships with professional, business, government and community organizations.

v     We will have a process to collect feedback on Grosse Ile Township Schools from business, members of the community, parents, students, alumni, and staff.

 

School Structure, Organization/Instructional Design

v     We will have schools that utilize all 12 months of the calendar.

v     We will have the schools providing latchkey programs for the community.

v     We will have a career program integrated in the curriculum that will enable students to explore and experience career opportunities in and outside the classroom.

v     We will have integrated learning activities.

v     We will have an educational development plan for each child.

v     We will work with home schooled students to integrate them into the school programs.

v     We will provide our students with multi-cultural opportunities.

 

Leadership

v     We will have creative and progressive leaders who will build on strengths and seek opportunities for continual improvement.

v     We will, provide and support professional development for our current and aspiring leaders.

v     We will develop and support student leaders.

v     We will have leaders who communicate effectively.

v     We will have leaders who are accessible to all students, parents, staff and community.

v     We will have leaders who value and model good character traits.

v     We will have a knowledgeable school board committed to serving the best interests of all.
