Guidelines for Success Rules and Procedures for Ms. Linton’s Class
Teacher Responsibilities
Pupil and Peer Responsibilities
The Nitti Gritty: No food, snacks, or drinks will be permitted in class. EVER
Attendance: If you are absent it is your responsibility to inquire about missed work and notes. Penalties for late arrivals to class and absents will follow Grosse Ile’s guidelines.
Tardiness: Tardy procedures will follow those outlined in the student handbook. You are responsible for keeping track of your tardiness. Each tardy will reduce your class participation grade by five points. Upon every third tardy you will report immediately to Mr. Flint. Mr. Flint will issue your detention before you will be permitted to class.
Grading Scale: Will follow the percentages outlined in the student handbook.
Late Work: Will be reduced by a letter grade for each day it is late, WEEKENDS COUNT. Any assignment turned in more that four days will earn 10 percent of the total points possible.
Missed tests/quizzes: Any missed test, regardless of reason, must be made up within two class days after returning to class.
Computer Lab: We will use the Computer Lab for class assignments. It is expected that you remain on task completing assigned work. If you are off task (distracting other students/playing computer or internet games) the final grade for that assignment will be reduced by 10 points.
Bathroom passes: You will receive three bathroom passes at the beginning of the semester. Each pass is worth five points. You may use those passes throughout the semester when you need to. Once all passes have been used you will receive no other passes. Any passes that have not been used will be credited to your class participation grade. If you have a medical condition I need to know about please inform me ASAP.
Classroom Procedure a) You are expected to bring all required materials to class. If you are unprepared for class you must take a tardy. Also, you need to be in your assigned seat working on your warm up work as soon as you get into your seat. Do not wait for myself or any other instructor to tell you to get started.
b) All work is to be turned in at the beginning of class on the day it is due. Assignments are to be placed in your hour’s “in box”.
c) Any materials being provided by me will be at the “work station”, and you are expected to pick up these materials before class begins for the hour.
Class Participation Grade: Awarded at the end of the semester
I place high expectations on my students and myself because I am certain of our ability to succeed.

Class participation grade
My goal for you this semester is your success. One way to have educational success is to participate positively and regularly in class. I plan to reward you with 100 pts, almost two test grades, at the end of the semester for your positive class participation. You will start the semester with 60 of those 100 points, which are yours to keep with only a few exceptions. Forty of those 100 points, you must earn.
Sixty points I give you Yes, I’m giving more than half of your participation points today! But, you are responsible for keeping these throughout the semester. Here’s how. 1) Bathroom passes: Each pass is worth five points. You may use the bathroom three times through out the semester. However each time you use a bathroom pass, you must subtract five of your participation points. 2) Tardiness: Each time you are tardy you must subtract five points from your participation points. If you accrue three tardys, you must go directly to Mr. Flint. He will issue a detention. I will not permit you to class until you have met with him and received a detention for your delinquency. 3) Alert behavior: Don’t fall asleep in class! Each time you appear to be asleep, your head is down or your eyes are closed, I will subtract 10 points. **If you are tardy to class four times or if you fall asleep three times in class, I will request meeting with you and your parents/guardians that week.
Forty points you earn Positive participation points work differently. These 40 points will be earned throughout the semester based on your behavior in class. Positive participation points are earned by: 1) Treating your peers and instructor (Ms. Linton or a substitute) with respect. I expect that you will not use negative nicknames in my classroom. You will not cuss; using poor language is punishable by a detention in the student handbook. You will not use sexually explicit or violent language in my classroom. 2) Participating in class discussion, class reading, and small group reading on a consistent and constructive basis. This portion of your grade will be assessed every progress reports and card making, four times at 10 pts each, throughout the semester. I will communicate your progress to you accordingly.
Participation grade breakdown
If you have any medical reason which will make earning this 100pts a problem, it is your responsibility to speak with me asap.
