6th Grade Vocal Music
WELCOME TO MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSIC
RAISING THE BAR
Objective:
To continue music education; sight reading, rhythmic dictation, vocal pedagogy, and choral pedagogy through attending, evaluating, and participating in concerts and performances.
Class Materials: one subject notebook and a pencil
Notebook Grade: At anytime, notebooks could be collected and graded. Things that will be graded in your notebook will be vocabulary, writing assignments, bell work, and group work
Assignments: If class work is not completes, then the remaining work will be assigned for homework. If the class participates and all work scheduled for that day is completed, then their will be no homework for that day
Class Participation: Participation in class is very important. This class will allow you to explore music in many different ways. Keep an open mind and participate in all classroom activities. Not participating will drastically have an effect on your grade
Friday Quizzes: Every Friday there will be a quiz. These quizzes will cover material learned in class throughout that week. If for some reason there will not be a Friday quiz, students will be notified!
Performance Grades: Performance grades will usually follow your Friday quizzes. Since one of the main objectives of this course is for 6th grade students to develop their voices, each week I will pick a piece of music for the class to learn and prepare to perform. Performances will be done in front of the class in groups of 3-4 students. These performance grades are very important and preparing for them is a strong portion of your class participation.
In-school/Night Performances: The 6th grade vocal music class will participate in the in-school concerts (this concert is mandatory). They will also be required to participate in the Middle School ArtsJam at the end of the year. If any other performances arise, the students will be notified.
